The Escape

Why

Sometimes after climbing the tower and preparing ourselves for a certain kind of life, we feel the need to run. Is it cold feet, using what we have to avoid what we could become? Or revelation, with the veil no longer over our eyes?

The rice in this image is inspired by the rice thrown at weddings to wish the happy couple prosperity and fertility. But here, the rice threatens to overwhelm, to take over or suffocate the life rather than enhance it. It’s time to escape.

How

Doll wedding gown - hand crocheted by my maternal grandmother, Nellie Freeman.

Veil to reppel by - Tulle fabric from Joanne’s

Setting - dollhouse purchased at Circa

Rice - from grocery store of course! I photographed it both in the studio and in the actual dollhouse.
